About West Coast National Park

The beauty of the West Coast National Park offers a lot of activities and is home to various birds species, mammals, and is rich in fauna and flora. It is a place to explore for the whole family and as it also offers restaurants and accommodation, it becomes a star destination for all nature lovers.

Flower Season – between August and September, depending on the rainfall preceding the season, the park is covered in flowers of various species. Though the thousands of migrating birds are one of the main reasons for the conservation of the West Coast National Park, the showy plants of the area, usually grow on granite or limestone rocks.

The vegetation of the park is divided into 36 associations (or communities), having some 482 plant species (including salt marsh species), of which 21 are Red Data Book species. A further 14 Red Data species have been recorded, or are likely to occur on the newly acquired sections of land namely Van Niekerks Hoop, Kalkklipfontein, Langefontein, and Elandsfontein.

Large areas of flowers can be seen in the Seeberg\Mooimaak and Postberg areas. However, the Park is host to various other flowers throughout the year, such as Chinkerinchee , Candelabra, Rooinaeltjie, Bruinsalie and Rooi Malva.
